Why We Love It
The Kiku Silk Brocade Travel Cosmetics Bag is a recreation of a three-dimensional abstract tapestry, Okiku Momi, that skillfully captures the depth and texture of the wrinkles in crumpled Japanese paper. The original Okiku Momi is located in Koetsuji Temple in Kyoto.
The silk is woven exclusively in Kyoto, the premier center of silk production in Japan, and is renowned for its particularly luxurious feel. You’ll be impressed how the color changes depending on the angle and intensity of light, lending this Nishiki brocade technique the nickname “the weaving of light.”
This handcrafted makeup bag is a metal-framed pouch with ball closure clasps and hinges that open wide to easily store or retrieve cosmetics or personal effects when on the go. The lining of this makeup bag is a sleek water-resistant rayon fabric that prevents discoloration and stains. It is a valued gift for the style-conscious traveler, or a sumptuous treat for yourself!
Founded in 1894, the award-winning Tatsumura Textile is Kyoto’s esteemed leader in world-class silk brocades. Their enduring efforts in preserving and revitalizing ancient Japanese textiles have made them one of the most respected companies in the field, with commissions from the Japanese Imperial Household and Christian Dior.

I ordered two cosmetic bags: Kiku Momi and Oshidori Karakusa-mon Niahiki. These cosmetic bags are made perfectly; they look like a piece of art. The silk material with a pattern is breathtaking. The bags open wide which is very convenient to take out and put back the cosmetics. I must have the third one now. I strongly recommend this product.
